Good morning and welcome to Day 18 of 31 Days of Resolutions!
Some days it’s super easy for me to snack on fruit all day long. Other days, however, it takes everything I have to not reach for a bag of chips or crackers instead. And while there’s nothing wrong about chips and crackers in moderation, I know for a fact that I am not eating the recommended daily servings of fruit.
Today’s resolution is all about awareness. Let’s eat the recommended servings of fruit so that we can really see what that looks like and how we can work at fitting it into our diet.
According to the USDA women between the ages of 19 and 30 need 2 cups of fruit per day and women between 30 and 50 need 1 ½ cups of fruit. That’s really not a lot when you think about it, but I can guarantee that I fall short of this mark when you total it up at the end of the week!
Here’s a few examples of one full serving of fruit:
- 1 large banana
- 1 mandarin orange
- 1 medium pear
- 1 small apple
- 8 large strawberries
- 31 grapes
- 1 cup of 100% fruit juice
When I actually look at that list, it seems so much more doable, and I hope you feel the same way, too! For additional fruit serving ideas you can refer the the USDA’s Choose My Plate website where they have it all broken down for you in a nice little chart.
