If you know me, or have read my blog, you know that I love saving money! Often times, one of the best ways to save money is to buy reusable products. They’re a little more of an investment up front, but so worth it! Today I would like to share with you one of those products. Zaina over at 3Green Moms sent me two zip-top LunchSkins reusable bags to try out and I am so excited to tell you guys that I tried them and I love them!
3Green Moms’s mission is simple, but powerful: to replace everyday plastic with smart, sustainable solutions that are easy to use and accessible to everyone. I believe that they have completely succeeded! These bags are easy to use, easy to find uses for, easy to clean, and cute as can be! (Of course, that’s important!!)
I tried out both the Small Zip Bag in Aqua Dot and the Medium Zip Bag in Green Chevron. The very first thing I noticed about both bags is how sturdy they feel! I can see these bags lasting a long time in my house. The colors are very vivid and, combined with the bold designs, make them fun to use!
My husband used the bags when packing his lunch for work. He takes a sandwich usually 4 out of 5 days a week. He remarked that the small zip bag seemed like it was made for Oreos- they fit perfectly.
I used the bags mostly with my 16 month-old daughter’s snacks. When we go to the store or out and about I always make sure my diaper bag is fully stocked with a variety of snacks. I was surprised how much she enjoyed holding the medium zip bag and eating out of it while we shopped. It’s light enough for her to hold comfortably, but it’s not flimsy or delicate by any means! While leaving the store in a rush I shoved the empty bag back in my diaper bag. When I pulled it out at home all I had to do was smooth out the wrinkles with my hands and it looked great again.
I also took both bags with me and my daughter on a plane. I packed Annie’s Organic Cheese Squares in the Medium Zip Bag and Gerber Apple & Cinnamon Puffs in the Small Zip Bag. (Just in case you were wondering, the small zip bag holds approximately 1.25 cups of puffs. You’re welcome!) The bags fit well in my very full diaper bag and Lucy enjoyed holding them and
gorging herself eating her snack on the plane.
Now I’m no math wiz, so my husband crunched some numbers and I was pretty impressed with what he came up with! Let’s say you use at least one sandwich bag 5 days a week (for work or school). According to 3Green Moms, one LunchSkins bag replaces 500 disposable plastic bags. If you were to buy 5 Medium Zip Bags ($8 each) instead of a 500 pack of plastic bags (about $16) and use one for each day of the week- those 5 bags would be the equivalent of 10 years worth of sandwich bags! That’s $40 investment for 10 years of no plastic bags! Absolutely incredible! And I genuinely believe that with proper care and use, these bags would last the advertised 500 uses.
Now go to the 3Green Moms website and check out their bags! They are currently offering 10% off all orders and if you input the code FONZ they will donate 15% to the Smithsonian National Zoo’s Washed Ashore Campaign! And (as if that’s not good enough!) they always have FREE SHIPPING! (Which I firmly believe is the 6th Love Language!) Y’all really can’t lose anything by trying these bags and I know that you will enjoy them as much as my family has!
